In seinem neuen, in Berlin gedrehten, Spielfilm „Phantomanie“ lässt der deutsch-ukrainische Filmemacher, Fotograf und Autor Miron Zownir zwischen eigensinniger Komik und klaustrophobischer Übersteigerung die Seelen seiner schrägen Figuren aufbrechen und zeigtdas Leben als „eine mit falschen Versprechungen zusammengeflickte Wunde...“ Der Film besticht durch seine skurrilen Figuren, surrealen Ereignisse und absurden Handlungsstränge.

What is „Phantomanie“ about? Zownir: “I believe that today’s materialistic hegemony, the blind faith in progress and the uncontrollable globalisation of power and economy paired with the idolatry of fame and an anachronistic monotheism triggers our primal fears. Who am I? How or based on who can orientate myself. Who can I still trust? How can I survive without becoming part of the inhuman machinery? How can I protect my emotions and individuality when everything can be duplicated and replaced. Perhaps those are not the fears of the majority but much rather the fears of those who refuse to conform. But that’s probably the target audience I want to connect with and that I identify with.”

Khavn gilt als das Wunderkind der aktuellen philippinischen New Wave Filmszene: Er hat Gedichte geschrieben, Romane veröffentlicht, Festivals veranstaltet, Filmkooperativen gegründet. Sein Film ISKWATERPANGK = SQUATTERPUNK lief beim ersten UNERHÖRT! Musikfilmfestival 2007: Kids in einem Slum von Manila, 70 Minuten vollgestopft mit z.T. sehr experimentellen s/w-Bildern und einer kruden Musik zwischen Punk und Kraut.
Seit ein paar Jahren wird Khavn von den anspruchsvolleren Filmfestivals weltweit gehätschelt. In Rotterdam und auf der Berlinale hatte er zudem Live-Auftritte, wo er mit einer Gruppe nur kurz zuvor zusammen-getrommelter lokaler Musiker den eigenen Film improvisatorisch begleitete (Khavn sitzt am Klavier und "singt").

Squatterpunk follows an eight year old Slum King named Hapon, a cocky would-be gangster, through one of the thousands of shanty towns that sprang up between the cracks in the Manila pavement. Like watching infants at play at a car crash, it's a hypnotic, almost seamless mix of social realism and visual poetry. The relentless noise leaves no room for dialog, making a stark impression without comment and, more significantly, without judgment. A vivid and jarring collection of postcards of innocence at the brink of a short and possibly non-existent adolescence, of simple pleasures amidst appalling squalor, of human junk that society ignores in a country the rest of the world prefers to forget.

Trash Humpers (USA 2010) / R: Harmony Korine / Experimental Film Drama / 78min / Englisch gesprochen, hardly any dialogue
Das Enfant-Terrible des amerikanischen Indie-Kinos, Harmony Korine, hat einen neuen Film mit dem Namen “Trash Humpers” gedreht. Dass Korine, der Mitte der neunziger durch das Drehbuch zu Larry Clarks explizitem Teenie-Aids-Drama “Kids” bekannt wurde, und danach vor allem mit seinem nicht weniger expliziten White-Trash-Streifen “Gummo” für Aufsehen sorgte, jetzt bei WARP Films eine neue Bleibe gefunden hat, macht angesichts des beiderseitigen Interesses an, sagen wir mal, unorthodoxen und herausfordernden Stoffen, Sinn. Der Plot und der Trailer zeigen, dass auch “Trash Humpers” wieder harte, tendenziell verstörende Kost ist. Für den Regissuer selber ist “Trash Humpers” “a new type of horror; palpable and raw.”

TRASH HUMPERS follows a small gang of sinister ‘elderly’ peeping toms through the shadows of a nightmarishly familiar suburban landscape. Their shocking and sociopathic behaviour makes for unbearably compelling viewing that scorches itself onto the mind’s eye.
